Kuchera creates new paintings for group show.
Creation is a new painting series by American artist John C. Kuchera. He was born in Cleveland Ohio and has lived in New York City since the early 1980s. Creation 1,2 and 3 will be featured in a group art exhibit in Chelsea called the 20” x 20” art show. Opening reception is Sunday, August 17, 2014, from 6-8pm. 253 west 24 Street in New York City. The Art Exhibit will be on view from August 17 to September 14, 2014.
He likes to do at least 12 of each of the series to ensure he has the right feeling for it. Like His onetime studio mate Noel Donaldson said at the NAAS Harlem “once you do a few of them you can recreate them at anytime in the future, its kind of like riding a bike, you never forget.”
“Kuchera” speaking excitedly is Hans Wolf another NAAS Harlem member. “John seems to be single handedly bringing true inspiring painting back to the art world.” “Bright, happy and unique, is how I think of John”
Stella Lilling is the founder of the art organization called Showcase Your Art New York City. She invited John to make 3 new paintings for this 20” x 20” group art exhibit in Chelsea.
As John explains his work to me the excitement and energy is amped up. “The creation series is the sister or really an off shoot of a much larger series called Vision Stories. The series includes the Nuns of Redemption, Beast Eaters, Beast Catchers and Art Disciples. They all work together to create a wonderful mysterious world. The new paintings Creation1,2 and 3 are figurative / organic creatures that appear to be creating worlds, but this is just one explanation of them. Everyone is encouraged to study and zone into the worlds I create, they are simple yet complex. Most of all is I want people to smile and be happy.”
In his Harlem studio John showed me his sketch pads and some of the first drawings for the Creation series. John explained to me that last year while doing life drawing at Columbia University he saw shapes in his head and got inspired from the model posing for the class. He brought his sketches home and knew he had something he could use in his next painting series. John plans to make large scale sculptures of them and is experimenting with making small versions using a friends 3D printer.

John C. Kuchera is now living in Harlem, a downtown boy from the early 1980s now enjoying the open spaces uptown. John C. Kuchera has been painting and drawing for years. His style is refreshing and enjoyable; he uses many a medium but he likes pen and ink and oils.
A Printer, Photographer, Porter at Columbia University, Farm worker, Security Guard in Maine (guarding Mice), a Janitor cleaning banks, even a copy writer. His most famous copy was, "Yes, Virginia we do toilets" (for a Cleaning service). ©Kuchera
